It can be very confusing to figure out what’s going on in your life on a day to day basis; trying to figure out what life is about to throw at you for the year ahead is worse! The world is confusing enough, when you want to turn to the Tarot to forecast your life and plan ahead for the year you don’t want to be deluged with either not enough information or too much irrelevant info, either! The Wheel of the Year Tarot Reading provides you with a single card’s worth of information for each month in the coming year, along with one card for yourself. Let’s explore why a limited scope is best for forecast readings!
You’d think that for a reading about future events, you’d want a lot of cards on the table.
You’d think wrongly! You do not in fact want too many cards on your table, confusing yourself and bringing a lot of energetic confusion to the forecast. It’s not an easy thing, to look into the future to attempt to divine what the heck is going on. You’ve got a lot of moving parts, a lot of things that are influenced by the actions, choices, and decisions of a whole lot of other people, some of whom won’t know what they’re doing until about five minutes after they’ve done the deed! The future is always in flux…

Imagine the flow of time and events like threads on a loom.
The ever present current moment is the thread on the shuttle, moving back and forth between the threads of the loom. That is your focus, right there, that current moment, weaving in and out through the threads, building the tapestry of your life one skipped thread at a time. And it’s only when you look back that you can see the picture, the tapestry is only seen in full after it’s finished, not while it’s in progress. Look ahead, and you see the threads of the loom, stretching ahead into the future, the image only existing in potential, and still capable of being influenced by decisions made in the current moment, at the shuttle as it weaves through.
You can predict what the final image might look like, if you know enough of the factors feeding into the current moment.
Forecasting the future requires that you know where you are right now. That’s why you need the significator card. That’s you, in your current situation. A single tarot card representing everything in your past, your self, your life, all leading up to one singular moment, encapsulating all that you are right now. From this single fixed point we can begin the forecast.
The farther forward in time you move from your fixed, known point, the more uncertain the forecast becomes.
Let me tell you a truth: anyone who says they can tell you with certainty what’s going to happen a year from now, or five years from now, is blowing smoke up your rear end. That or they need to show you their winning lottery tickets. From your single moment in time you can predict with pretty good accuracy what’s going to happen next month, or even three months out. But towards the end of the Wheel of the Year reading, we’re talking in terms of tendencies and possibilities, not certainties.
And that, the uncertainty of the future, is why that limited scope is important!
In a Tarot deck there are 78 cards, that can be read upright or reversed. Each card is an entire universe of knowledge and possibility, in the right hands. So, when you’re doing a forecast tarot reading for a whole year in advance, you don’t want too much information for the months furthest out ahead in the future. You’ll drown in the possibilities. Maintaining a strict one card per month format pushes the reader into accepting the formless possibilities the future holds. Instead of talking about “you’ll meet a person who can help with this specific project”, the reader will phrase their insight more like “be aware that help can come from unlikely places, look for assistance outside your usual avenues.” The further ahead in time you try to look, the more open and accepting of possibility the reading gets.
For you, the person who needs insight:
Keep in mind that future forecasts are not set in stone! Remember that shuttle, the endless present moment moving forward through the choices that define the weave of the tapestry? You can know the design, and know what choices to make, but if someone chunks a brick into the loom all bets are off. The tapestry can be changed, through your own actions or choices, or outside forces and effects. If you get a future forecast that you don’t like, you can change it! And that forecast can be altered by any of a thousand million choices that the people around you are making, too. Getting too caught up in the idea that now that you have a future forecast means you know exactly what’s going to happen can remove your ability to respond to rapidly changing circumstances, and can actually prevent your pretty tapestry from taking shape.
Yes, I offer a Wheel of the Year Tarot Reading.
It takes between 45 and 60 minutes to go through the full Wheel of the Year, so I like to arrange an appointment for us to get together to chat, where neither of us will be distracted from the reading. You’ll get 13 cards to provide you with insight to the coming year. The full Wheel of the Year reading is $50.
And, like I’ve said, I want you to be very aware that I’m not promising the trends I see will actually literally happen just as I’ve read in the cards; I read by seasons, and use the Sabbats and Esbats of the Wiccan calendar to mark the passage of time, so when I say February what I’m holding in mind is Imbolc, which is more like the end of January and beginning of February. I also use the passage of the Zodiac around the calendar to guide the reading, so dates are a little bit subject to change. My style of reading for a forecast is not well suited to precise predictions, but can and will point out when major life changes are in store, as well as important energetic shifts of note for you in your life.
